Gin & Tonic
This widely popular drink emerged in India during the second half of the nineteenth century to ward off malaria and for other health benefits. Gin was drunk for medicinal purposes from the 1600s and tonic became popular in the British colonies in the 1850s, partly thanks to Quinine – the pungent bark extract that gives tonic its bitterness which was used against malaria.
Today we enjoy it for its delicious taste. A simple and great mixed drink which has stood the test of time.
