Now popular across the world, the drink was originally called the Sheridan's Gaelic Coffee and created in the winter of 1944-1945 by Joe Sheridan from Castlederg. The chef turned bartender was working at Foyne's Port, attempting to warm some American travellers on an especially cold evening. He added whiskey to hot coffee and was asked if he was serving Brazilian coffee to which he answered: "It's an Irish Coffee".
Ingredients
• 50ml Irish Whiskey
• 10ml Brown Cane sugar syrup
• Coffee
• Cream
• Glass: Georgian Irish
How to:
Pre-warm the glass by filling it with very hot water and leave to stand. Prepare the cream by warming it lightly and whipping or shaking it. Empty the glass and build the cocktail, float the cream on top.
